Each gen comes with its own flaws that are often pretty major. Whatever your favourite Gen is, its probably your favourite gen because it happens to have a set of flaws that you are willing to ignore.
Even if you just compare the graphics of each gen with games that came out around the same time on the same system, usually Pokemon ends up looking very mediocre.
Everyone on this board is defending a game that is a 7/10, 8/10 tops. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you also realize that its not worth defending since the criticism is probably valid.
