Except that BW was colorful, but people didn't hate it because the battles made fun of the competitive scene. People didn't hate evil Team Rocket, in fact they liked that TR was competent but lamented the loss of the humor TR brought. No one hated Cilan because he was a bro and was a more refreshing and interesting Brock. We all fucking hated Iris though. God we fucking loathed her and her mary sue-ness. It was one thing with Excadrill but her getting a fucking Dragonite took the fucking cake. BW was hated because Ash was made into a moron after the competency of DP, the battles were incredibly disappointing outside of a small handful of exceptions, and Ash's team received very little development outside of a few pokemon.
Oh, and the spam of speed lines and stock footage for moves was jarring and infuriating.
SM is not great. The battles have not been good, they've been meh. That there aren't more of them in an anime that many people regularly point out whose main purpose is to advertise for the games, there should be more battles. You can be SOL but still have battles. I mean honestly, how many battles has Ash had in Alola? I mean actual battles and not just the kind of sparring shit that he has always done.
