My problem with it is that the story and progression (not length) are sooooooo good. There's character, character development, development of core concepts of the game that aren't related to the 8 gyms and elite four narrative that the recent games have been stuck too.
If you took the plot from this dlc, and made a mainline game filled with character and consequential subplots like the dlc, funny moments and the ability to grind/participate in the world other than the usual central bullshit plots, you would unironically have one of the best VIDEO GAMES ever made
