Boring region, high level evos for a lot of cool stuff (love 2 grind my Rufflet for 15 levels before it becomes useful, all in endgame areas), and a the first time the focus on story got in the way of my enjoyment of a game. This is where the games start to feel less like YOUR adventure, with the focus being on building a team and the attachment your form to your cool virtual friends, and where the games became more about shitty fan-fiction tier writing. The region is a big corridor. Many of the new mons designs were unappealing to me, especially since the original BW did not have a national dex, meaning everything was designed to be a replacement for something else (Gigalith-Golem, Conkelldur-Machamp, Seeismitoad-Swampert) but WORSE. Also introduced the most degenerate competitive metagame in the series' history. Overall, a harbinger of decline.

>SMThe only really cool thing about these games is being able to catch a Level 10 Salamence. More games should have scary 1% encounters early on. The very worst of the cutscene and story bloat, being stopped every five steps to have someone explain something to you. It feels quite amateurish.
Didn't play USUM and have no desire to play SwSh.
