What happened is that for some reason, Sinnohbabies and every fan that came afterwards are butthurt that GSC is
a) the comfiest region
b) the region/games with the most lore
c) the magnum opus of Pokemon and the creator-intended final chapter
And when the remakes came around, not only did the devs have an already amazing game to build directly from, but they also went above and beyond and added infinite features, minigames, Gym Leader and Elite Four rematches, even more lore etc.
To date GSC and HGSS are the general consensus among the fandom for the best games in the series, and rightly so. The soul levels are off the charts.
It's simply jealousy on the part of many newer Pokemon fans whose first game was DP, BW, BW2, XY, SuMo or SwSh. So they have to shit on objectively excellent games.
And we have to push back. That's all it is.
P.S. There is no issue with the level curve in any Pokemon game, let alone GSC and HGSS. If you ever find yourself blaming a level curve in a Pokemon game, chances are you probably suck at Pokemon.
