The main issue with Pokemon as a competitive game outside the reliance on RNG is simply that their are specific mons that do their specified role better than any other ones. The solution would have been to keep the number of pokemon smaller and working on balancing those for play instead of gamefreak's idea of introducing massive power creep every new generation.
