This doesn't conflict with Legends Arceus either, since Hokkaido/Hisui/Sinnoh was and still is a pretty fucking backwater place in Japan, it's pretty easy to make the jump that the game probably takes place just a few years after 1925.

well i'm glad i'm not the only one feelin this way then lol. tried to marathon the regions myself just a few weeks back starting with frlg and i always stop around getting to fuchsia, maybe it's just from fighting every trainer. any time i wanna use a tm or a move tutor i just feel like it's a waste because there's nothing that complex about the game, you can steamroll it like it's nothing and the areas around the bosses tend to give ya mons that are effective against them if you're havin trouble, but if you want a full team early, especially with some of the weaker mons, you'll be underleveled. and yeah the spinoffs are actually solid too, which makes it all the stranger.

Supports are generally your damage sponges. Use tactics to have them eat hits first, also use them to buff your team/heal. Hammer away with a striker, and the third member can be a useful tech, a second striker (have to be careful with this, because they usually eat up gauge) or a second support to cover buffs the other one doesnt, act as a second tank if the first one goes down, and/or heal.

Example:
Character 1 has Pokemon
Character 2 has same pokemon
Lets assume they are both 5 star, if character 2 is more popular, why pull for character 1? You could resolve this by making character 1 a 3 star shitter, but then that is less reason to pull for character 2 since you already own character 1's pokemon in a sense. But that matters less since this is a character gacha, but some people like the full package of their beloved monster, too. Probably why eggmons were invented.
Only exception I can see is like Leon and Charizard, because he will have an entirely different gimmick than Red's Megazard assuming they add Gigantimax

Well in reality its pretty tricky. Hilda is physical, Ethan is special. For special, you have waay better attackers like gridded flint for free, along with Red and grid meme flannery.

For physical, we only have Ho-oh, who is gimmicky and can't even be fully powered up, flints measly fire punch. and Charizard, who is better off being a special attacker. So Hilda has somewhat of a spot as "the physical fire striker". Ethan is outclassed and pointless.
