>If you can't see why all of those concepts fall under the vague umbrella of "magical girly fairy bullshit"Okay I'm to rant about something that's probably super autistic. I was planning to make an entire thread about this, but I'll sperg about here since it's relevant:
The fact that types actually exist in canon absolutely confounds me. The fact that types actually exist in-universe, and aren't just a gameplay mechanic, makes no goddamn sense.
THIS is why the thematic vagueness of Fairy bothers me. What the fuck is a fairy? What is fairy-typing? What does it mean to be a fairy type? What are the criteria for a Pokemon to be classified as such? I could maybe accept your "magical girly fairy bullshit" explanation if types were just a gameplay mechanic and thus only need a meta-explanation rather than a canonical one, but I can't accept it as a canonical justification. What, does being feminine make something a fairy type? If so, then why is Grimmsnarl a fairy type but Lopunny isn't? Or hell, why aren't all female Pokemon fairy types? Are fairy types spirits? Then why is Magearna a fairy type while Ninetales isn't? Are you telling a robot is a spirit, but a kitsune isn't? Or fuck, why is Alolan Ninetales a fairy type, but regular Ninetales isn't? Good worldbuilding demands internally consistent rules and logic, and that can't be found in the Fairy type, or even types as whole for that matter.
