I think the games do a really nice job of painting the picture of a broken man. I can understand a ten-year-old writing him off as the big bad guy who wants to destroy the world, but the writing gives you a lot of context clues about how he became that way, and as you grow older, you start to understand that he's a pretty realistic person. His thoughts on the human condition are actually very grounded even if his response is not.
