there are cards scattered about the overworld as hidden collectibles, or as unique items limited to a single merchant npc.
and in pokemon centers or pokemarts, or even in random houses you can have npcs that challenge you to card games and give you rare cards as a reward.
the switch has an nfc reader for ammibos which scan content into your game. put nfc strips on rare foil cards so you can scan the pokemon on that card into your party. have each special box set come with an amiibo to let you scan all the cards into your inventory.
as well, there is already an online version of the pokemon tcg, so the foundation for making it a secondary multiplayer mode to a main series game is in place.
