It has been merchandised into anime, manga, trading cards, toys, books, and more. The main games alone have over 700 monsters which are the main attraction and are a constant among all the spin-off media. This is only considering the current state of a series that has 6 generations worth of discussion.
Pokémon is HUGE. This would probably be one of the fastest boards (like it was at one point) if it wasn't for the uptight moderation that has and keeps scaring most of the community away.
