however, in gen IV specifically, it does this by choosing one of 25 different personality values (basically controls the mon's shininess, nature, gender, among other things), one for each nature, rather than reroll until it finds a shiny of the opposite gender.
what this essentially means is that with the correct trainer ID and secret ID (a hidden value attached to your save used in calculating shininess and furthering the uniqueness of your save), cute charm can boost your odds of finding a shiny in the wild from 1/8192 to something like 1/20.
you don't even need to cheat in order to get the desired TID/SID, since iirc it's determined by your system's date and time when you create your save. it requires pretty good timing and a few third party programs to find the desired TID/SID and help with timing, but attaining them in-game is perfectly doable without hax.
