Bastemon references the Egyptian godesses BASTEt/Bubastis and Sekhmet. Bastet was a motherly protector of homes and is represented with the head of a domestic cat and a sexy body. Sekhmet was an axe-wielding warrior who literally thirsted for blood and was infamously tricked into drinking an entire lake of wine to calm her down. She is represented with the head of some big cat, usually a lioness. Bastemon has leopard spots instead because those are famously used for tacky stuff that is meant to be sexy, like like rugs, boots or underwear.
