Cuba's easy to get and usually cool but I don't listen very often because I don't know a lick of spanish. I do appreciate when they are music though.
You can get all kinds of wild stuff if you're in the right place and have a wire! I dunno if you being maybe in a city would affect your reception at all but a longwire can make all the difference.
All I have is a Tecsun R-9012, a wire to clip on, and some time to mess around with it. I hope you can get something interesting! Since you're further west who knows what goodies you can potentially get out of the heart of Asia or the Pacific.
The Pacific can be a challenge however but they have lots of little shortwave stations due to FM or AM not reaching between their islands that easily.
