G/S/C was built on the RBY engine, except with color. Hence why the Safari Zone didn't exist.
3rd Gen was built on the G/S/C engine, except upscaled to work with GBA graphics. Hence why they had the Safari Zone, but now you couldn't save in it. I guarantee that if you could, we'd have the Safari Zone glitch come again.
4th Gen was built on the RSE/FRLG engine.
5th Gen was built on the DPPt/HGSS engine.
7th Gen was built on the 6th Gen engine.
The ONLY TIME that they have made a new engine, was for 6th gen. And they did that purely because the games were making the jump from 2d to 3d.
This is not a new phenomenon. Stop thinking that this time it'd be different.
