You're always told in the game that wild Pokémon will attack you if you go into the tall grass. Imagine like the pic to the left. That's how I've always figured it, that most Pokémon are territorial and attack you if you get near them. So imagine a 3D game where the tall grass makes it hard to see what's in any of it, and maybe with the top-down view you get to see some tall grass rustling here and there where a Pokémon is walking, and sometimes you'll even catch a glimpse of which one it is. Well you go near the rustling, and maybe the Pokémon either stops moving thusly defending itself by jumping out at you or it starts running away until it finally turns around to attack.
Would that not be a little cooler than them magically popping out of fucking nowhere? I think so, for immersion's sake anyway.
