The Pokemon community doesn't care about fangames. Most people in the community are complete lemmings who only know how to purchase officially licensed products and wouldn't give fangames a passing glance.
/vp/ somehow manages to be even more retarded than the typical members of the community, and actively dislike and try to derail all discussion of fangames with negativity and blanket statements.
People who like RPGs wouldn't bother with a Pokemon fangame because of how isolated the Pokemon fanbase is from every other fanbase. Anyone who plays RPGs knows that Pokemon games barely meet the bare minimum for what an RPG is and would assume that fangames probably aren't any better -- most would probably assume fangames are even worse in that regard.
If you make a game challenging, the people used to maingame difficulty will hate it. If you make the game too easy, people will complain that there's no challenge.
You could say "Just like make the game for yourself lol" but am I seriously going to put weeks, months, and maybe even years of effort into a game only I care about? I'm not an ascetic. I'd like to at least know that there's someone else that cares. Otherwise I'd be better off just playing games instead of making them.
