>>46648132Of our generation groups, Hoennfrens shockingly were the most hesitant, 20.0% report no interest at all and 36.7% report unlikely to buy the game. The most interested were Sinnohfrens at 95.8% who also had the lowest enthusiasm of any at 34.8%. When it comes to buying, the most likely to buy are again the Sinnoh frens at 79.2%, but they also came with a low enthusiasm at 31.6%. Hoennfrens had a similar hesitancy to buy, while all groups except Sinnoh have an enthusiasm rate of 41-42%. I’m not sure what was going on there with the group of people that started with a Gen 3 game as even though these are all small samples, they didn’t respond oddly to BDSP and they were larger than Sinnoh frens who behaved as expected. I think that Sinnoh frens aren’t too enthusiastic about PLA yet because while it looks good, it wasn’t what they had in mind and to many it’s probably seen as the reason why the remakes are so underwhelming. Kantofrens did report the highest enthusiasm, although not by a lot (42.9% vs 41.7% for Johto).
So my entire premise here was to try to figure out, roughly, what the current active fanbase is like. Based on the responses to what games people dropped off at, I modified an attrition rate based on what normies would be like, basically, I assumed that they were more likely to drop off after Gen 1 and Gen 2, and less likely to drop off after Gen 6 and beyond. The overwhelming amount of people that started on the classic Pokemon games are likely not playing and never coming back no matter what, whenever they ended up leaving. It usually had to do with them getting fed up with the general direction. Gen 3 and 4 drop off to some extent but for the most part they’ve been in it for the long haul. When they drop off, it’s usually only for a game or two.
