Now as a game this is a retcon due to complaints from Colosseum players, it is something similar to the appearance of the eggs in Gold/Silver as a video game it makes sense to see a new mechanic in the sequel, but as lore it is stupid that in hundreds of years living with Pokemon no one has seen an egg or for example no one knows about Alola during the events of Kanto while Professor Oak's cousin has been living there for years, it is a narrative incongruity.
