I think the biggest problem I have with the XY rival is that I didn't see them as a rival. I mean take the battle for the mega ring. I started the fight feeling bad, like I didn't want to deny her mega evolution. That's not how I would have felt if I was battling Blue for a mega ring, I would have fought to take it from him and feel good when I crushed him.
