So as of right now we know the Pokemon Timeline is RBY=RSE - GSC=DPP - BW - BW2=XY
With ORAS, we know that there is an alternate world where there isn't Mega Evolutions, leading people to believe XY is in a new dimension with ORAS, implying XY was a reboot of Pokemon (which it kind of was) in this new world. Let's assume these worlds run parallel. Since RSE takes place before XY would, it's possible that XY is still in the original timeline, since in that timeline, XY is when Mega Evolutions were discovered, and that in the new timeline they were discovered much earlier, and thus has an impact on how everything plays out.
So ORAS is the start of an entire new Pokemon Universe. This could mean the next game could be an updated version of RBY (which could feature different story line with an alternate version of events). This makes sense because it's the only Generation that isn't compatible with the 3DS, and it would take place at the same time as ORAS.
Since another remake of GSE isn't needed, and history is obviously playing out different in the new timeline with a new history, they are free to do whatever they wish for future games, and be done with remakes.
Also wouldn't it be interesting if the Meteor that was headed towards ORAS gets dumped in the distant past of the original timeline, and that's what brings Clefairy and other extraterrestrial Pokemon to the planet?
