The usual three starter trainers of the region were indoctrinated by the Pokémon Professor.
The trainer with your starter's weakness will be your first fight and will appear before you face the final boss (The Pokémon Professor).
The story's motif is "Sins of the Father": past generations ruining things for future ones.
All the missions in the game would involve correcting mistakes done by people who came before the current ones.
