Kalos Route 18 plays very much like backward progression. The well-managed gardens of the vineyard look as fruitful as ever and never younger, but things take a turn for the worst past that heaven on earth, revealing underneath it, a testimony of what the route's true history was before the recent renovations.
Just past the vineyard and a rather rickety bridge lies a completely abandoned coal mine. The grass at its worst reaches up to your thighs, Bug-types of all kinds lurking within. Carts lie forgotten, some still with useless coal in them, others overturned. The railroad tracks are now rusted and some pieces are gone entirely.
All in all, it's a mess.
Of the two remaining entrances into the mine, one is completely boarded up with crooked nails and aged wood. The other entrance is also boarded up, but not to the same extent. The hurriedly-constructed entrance has a few gaps in it, one is just big enough for someone your size to squeeze through.
A) "You think this is the place?"
B) Surely there has to be a sign somewhere cryptically explaining the reason for closure.
C) "Hey, I think I hear some mumbling over there.."
D) Encounter a gruesome sight.
