Here are my thoughts on the classmates' roster.

Pikachu: Nothing more needs to be said by now.
Rowlet: Decent development throughout, comic relief but a strong battler.
Lycanroc: The most developed out of Ash's team.
Torracat: Could have had more development outside Masked Royal episodes. Never understood why it wasn't used against Hapu instead, it never got a Grand Trial battle to its name.
Meltan: Came in relatively late but at least got to show off some of its battling skills.

Alolan Vulpix: Got a couple of battles, but overall it did nothing throughout the series except to be cute.
Magearna: She's most likely getting this next week. I'm sorry but catching a Mythical 1 week before the league without any training and proper development is just shit writing.

Turtonator: Its development pretty much stopped after he caught Marowak.
Alolan Marowak: Only a couple of development episodes.
Charizard: Pretty much just used as a Ride Pokemon outside of that one episode in the Poni arc.

Togedemaru: Zero development at all throughout the series. The only point of it was to shill the Pikaclone of Gen 7.
Vikavolt: Only got about 3 episodes of development throughout the series but it was handled well, imo.

Primarina: Was never really shown to be a battler desu, the whole goal of Lana was to create giant bubbles and she achieved that by obtaining the Primarium-Z and evolving Popplio all the way.
Eevee: Disappointing. Almost no development after it was caught. It was just to shill LGPE.
>Mallow
Tsareena: Although fully evolved, it basically did nothing throughout the series also.
Shaymin: No development before the League, same case as Magearna but Mallow got it much earlier, so this is really bad writing.
