I'd like to say this may apply to all Megas, but it seems like it only applies here because they kept talking about Lucario's Aura taking control of him. Otherwise it seems that trainer "bond" or whatever isn't actually a requirement to Mega Evolve, but if you don't have an appropriate one the Pokemon just loses their shit.
