Gen 2 improved almost everything from Gen 1, and it was great.
Gen 3 was a step up in some ways and a step down, lack of backwards compatibility hurt it in my eyes but it was still good.
Gen 4 had a terrible start but then it really hit its stride, even better than Gen 2 (helped by the Gen 2 remake).
Gen 5 was fresh and a little alienating at first (no old Pokémon being the main reason), but in hindsight I really like it, almost as good as Gen 4.
Gen 6 sucks and I'm not enjoying it, maybe Z will fix it.
