When Mudkip were introduced to Alola, they found fierce competition among the region's fresh waterways. Instead, they found a home inside the cave network that connects the four islands. Mudkip spend their whole lives inside these caves without ever seeing a single ray of sunlight. Over time Alolan Mudkip it lost it's sense of sight and its skin lost pigment, turning the Pokemon a pale pink color. It detects prey using the fin on it's head to detect faint vibrations in the water. Once it passes the tadpole stage, it leaves the water permanently, using the darkness and cool temperature of the caves to keep its skin moist.
