Traditional eggs have existed since gen 1, mentioned in dex entries such as Ekans, and even depicted in the Zukan with standout examples like the Nidorans (complete with a unique mating season period and end result of said mating season that's unique to Nidoran in the wild that guarantees both a male and female are born, unlike breeding Nidoran in captivity later down the line) but gen 2 expanded upon the lore of Pokemon biology with the introduction of egg-like cradles.
In other words, this isn't the "gotcha" you think it is.
