The story is probably the second best written after Gen 5, but it's still a Pokemon story so it's nothing special and it's way too overbearing and the cutscenes are irritating, especially in Melemele. However, I really love shiny hunting in SMUSUM. Once you set up the Trevenant/Exeggutor and Smeargle, SOS chaining becomes very "away from keyboard," moreso than Pokeradar, Friend Safari, and even the Dexnav. Almost like soft resetting but with 1/300 odds rather than 1/4096 and the shiny Pokemon you catch will usually have two or three perfect IVs. Before I start shiny hunting I can deposit my Pokemon in Isle Evelup/Isle Avue and plant berries in Isle Aplenny and then reap all the rewards at once. There just this efficiency in Gen 7 that I really like. I'm working of Stufful at the moment.
