>>44579983I bought every game from Platinum onward at release with no exception except for USUM. I pirated SM and later FyreLordZuko's USUM and still felt robbed.
>FRLG were a mistake because they refused to make the definitive Kanto experience and only served to piss of the hardcore Kanto (who would know it as Indigo back then) fans. Because FRLG was a carbon copy of RG and the shitty Sevii Islands subplot shoved in, it only served as the basis for why most people truly believe Pokemon has never changed throughout the years. FRLG should have had the innovations from Johto put in there as they go hand in hand with what the people who lived during Pokemania remember>Even though DP are godawful, Platinum still manages to be one of the definitive Pokemon games because they're the last time most of the major concepts were expanded on and brought forward rather than cut and removed as filler. HGSS are peak soul and manage to be one of the best games, but suffer from the same thing FRLG did as they failed the retroactively add the good things RS/DP had, albeit to a much lesser extent than FRLG did.>BW/BW2 are peak 2D despite the animation looking godawful. While the linear take wasn't necessarily great, the engine warranted the handholdy parts while still making it possible to Mash A through them and still enjoy the extra content that was available. Despite this, they started the trend of cutting key concepts instead of expanding on them.>Gen 6 is peak 3D as they look and feel mostly like gen 5, their biggest downfall is that their arc was never resolved and as standalone titles X and Y are "meh" at best. The PSS, Super Training, and Dexnav/Chaining still manage to make them the definitive Pokemon social experience and most people are upset at ORAS for menial things when the real issue should be the difficulty if anything.>I liked Lillie's story arc but SM are a travesty and USUM removed that part. The small difficulty spikes were nice but they don't feel like games.
