Yikes. 34 unique posters and nobody mentioned Ruby or Sapphire.
Well, Sapphire holds a very special place in my heart. You said you wanna hear about it, so here goes. Pokemon Gold comes in an EXTREMELY close runner-up. I'll actually talk about both.
I grew up pretty poor. I was happy and had great friends, but I was playing with an NES when everyone already had a PS1 & N64. I never minded though, I had classics on there, plus a Sega Genesis. My mother finally got enough money to make me the biggest "toy" purchase ever, and I'll never forget it. She bought me a Lime Green GBC at Toys R Us and I can still remember the scene. Toys R Us had this beautifully lit gold case holding in their video game consoles, and everytime I walked by it I said "man, I'll never have that". But my mother bought me it. Full price. And I was able to get Pokemon Gold that day as well.
I remember we left the store I was so happy. Lol, I remember I got in the car and started playing, and I had no idea what to do when the game asked "Do you wish to overwrite your save file?", as I was 7-8 years old and I didn't understand.
But the reason Sapphire takes the cake is because after Playing Gold so much, and loving it, seeing the commercials and reading about Gen 3 made me so pumped. The graphics were astonishing -- so meany beautiful colors! I couldn't wait. My best bud got the game too, and to this day, I still use his Wailord in my party. We went to WalMart, and my dad this time around, who was also not very wealthy, allowed me to buy a White GBA and Pokemon Sapphire. I sunk 325 hours into it, and enjoyed every second, and I think my dad agreed that it was money well spent, since it was the only game I had for the GBA until several years later. So Sapphire holds the top spot because I cherished and valued that purchase so much, and I, like I said, enjoyed Hoenn a ton. Music, Pokemon, everything. Only thing that sucks is that I was unable to bring over my Pokemon from Gold.
