Another idea I've played around with in my head but will probably never implement into a game is having the choice of three starters, but they're all normal type. Instead of chosing between which type you want, they'll all be proficient in a specific stat (IE, one has good attack, one has good defence, ect) Later on in the game, based on a choice in the game, you can evolve your starter into a type of your choice, Eevee style. It would mean the creation of several fakemon though. Feel free to steal that idea if you want.
