>>24633228A Base Set Mewtwo. First Pokemon cards I ever had was in the summer of 1999 and I got a Zap! theme deck. The only cards I had before that were a Fighting Energy and a Diglet I had gotten off of other kids at school before Summer started, but I never thought to ask where to buy any more of the cards (none of the stores in town actually had any except for the tiny little card shop that nobody knew existed downtown), so getting these was a real treat. We were actually off to drop my older brother and sister off at summer camp, and we stopped at Toys R Us, where they had some cards. My brother and sister got to pick out something that they'd get when they came back from summer camp if they were good, and I got the Zap Theme deck.
I still remember staying up late that night, reading the cards and trying to figure out how to play the game just from that.
The rulebook flew out the window of the car on the way to the hotel. Not even fucking joking. We actually stopped at the same Toys R Us on the way back and picked up a 2-player starter set for my sister and I to share so we'd actually know how to play the game, and my brother picked out a Blackout theme deck for himself. He didn't like the game all that much and gave me and my sister all the cards (except Hitmonchan). We didn't understand that the theme decks were preset and not just "big booster packs" until school started again and the other kids told us.
You just made me nostalgia pretty hard. Sorry for all that shit out of nowhere.
