She's already an established fashion designer, but she's not used to Kalos yet or how things work. Linnea is among her first trainers, and volunteers herself to help Valerie out with getting things used to everything. They become fast friends and even start going out eventually.
Then Linnea introduces Valerie to petplay and everything just gets weird from there.I guess from there it would follow as things got weirder or whatever. Also Valerie doesn't genuinely go insane or anything, she just sort of "stops" acting normal, and does show clarity when she needs to.
