>>56191200>my working theory is that the Ledyba line was created out of spite to make every other bug in the franchise look better. From the 97 gold beta we can see that initially Ledyba was a single stage mon and instead "Ledian" was another unrelated pokemon based on a ladybug. They seem to have intended only Slinarak to be the early route bug and instead have two ladybug based pokemon as a novelty, them referencing how invasive ladybugs have displaced native species over time. Why they decided to cut this and just turn Ledian into an evolution is unknown, I honestly could imagine Ledian was added late as fuck and someone just pulled stats out of their ass that seemed reasonable for it.
