However, if it were just that they would appreciate Crystal for putting Donphan and Ursaring earlier and putting Sneasel in Johto, instead of throwing a hissyfit about Ampharos missing, OR conversely if Ampharos is so amazing they would have appreciated it when it was in GS. Also, they would appreciate HGSS for putting Tyranitar, Magcargo, Misdreavus, and wild Steelix, fairly early in Johto. To be fair Houndoom isn't pre-Elite 4 in any version of Johto and one Johto is so hated is the alleged lack of cool Pokemon and Houndoom is indeed cool, But that would imply that Tyranitar (a mountain-destroying Kaiju) isn't cool, and if it isn't, then Lance or Karen not using one wouldn't considered a flaw despite the lack of Ttar on their teams being a common talking point used against them
Also if they were really concerned about wanting Gen 2 Pokemon to have the spotlight, they would have been upset whenever Johto starters got shafted out out of shill forms or buffs or whenever Gen 2 pokemon get lesser representation in spinoffs instead dancing on their graves.
Tdlr, a good portion of complaints are from fans who just want to use the Gen 2 Pokémon in the Gen 2 region, but a large portion of it is concern trolling and wanting a scapegoat for the franchises' flaws, and since Johto is the least shilled region by far, its the easy target.
