i think there should be some system in place for people to replace AWOL gym leaders or ones they feel don't deserve the tital
maybe aspiring gym leaders for a type that's already claimed can challenge the incumbent leader and fight him in a standard 6v6 singles or doubles battle (current leader's choice) with levels all equalized to 50/100, both participants using exclusively mons of the relevant type they're fighting over, and standard competitive clauses applied like no bag items, evasion items/moves/abilities, endless stall sets, duplicate species, OHKO moves, inflicting more than one concurrent instance of the sleep status, the moody ability, etc
the person being challenged has one week to respond to the challenge or he'll get demoted and the aspiring leader gets the position
if the challenge is accepted then at least one admin and any number of spectators shall spectate the battle
whoever wins gets to be the gym leader for the given type
not sure how often this system will be needed considering there's 18 types to claim but I guess it'll still be helpful to have some kind of leader replacement policy
also this suggestion assumes we're having a strict 1 leader per type policy. we could also just have no cap on leaders per type; this provides insurance against a gym leader going AWOL or holding their badge hostage with some extremely cheesy team and custom format, without people having to wait a week for a chance for a replacement to be installed
