I'm wanting to write a story about a modern day Pokemon adventure - Pokemon in the real world. Obviously, the likely adaptions would be implemented, but other than that it's pretty much what I said.
Now, there are gyms and leagues and such. There are no animals, save what we have seen in the anime (birds and fish). Legendaries exist. Pokemon use in the military was banned by the United Nations shortly after WWII, and any country that didn't agree to the treaty was overthrown and had a democracy instilled. The background goes on.
Anyway, the story is about a college student who lives in Arizona named Zenith. His fiance died and he dropped out of college due to depression. She was murdered by a Pokemon crime syndicate - much like Team Rocket. She had something they wanted, a Jirachi. Jirachi had chosen her to be its friend because of the kind and caring light it saw inside her. They broke into her house and took Jirachi, who they found with a special device they had developed (it was kept secret, lest the government take it), killing her in the process. Zenith no longer had motivation for anything.
After a year or so of grieving, he is confronted by the Spirits of Consciousness - the Lake Guardians. They sensed something was wrong in the world and that he had a connection to it. He told them his plight and, knowing that (somehow) he had to be the one to rescue Jirachi and bring down the syndicate, they gave him what he needed to do it. Uxie, embodying knowledge, explained to him that it was somehow aware that only he could accomplish the task, and that he would save the world in doing so. Mesprit, embodying emotion, awakened his rage by reminding him of how his fiance had perished and his friend Jirachi had been taken for the purpose of evil deeds, and rage was instilled. Finally, Azelf, embodying willpower, inspired him to use that rage as determination to accomplish the task set before him. So Zenith leaves home, with only his pet and companion: his Electrike.
