Convergent evolution occurs when species occupy similar ecological niches and adapt in similar ways in response to similar selective pressures..
Its like how many different creatures all seperately evolved into crabs.
If they really wanted convergent evolution they should have had different Pokemon species have the same mon as an endpoint.
So for example, have a new small crablike Pokemon evolve into Kingler somehow.
What they implemented is ironically more like divergent evolution.
