I've transferred him to ever main play through since I got him in X, even though I could never use him till eight at the end of the game. As for the items, it's just things specific to various pokemon; in case a farfetchd doesn't have a stick or a cubone is missing his bone. The items I'd have would change based on where I am. I guess I saw the essentials as more the kind of things I needed. So things for making food, things for finding hidden pokemon in different terrains, things specific pokemon might be missing. On my pokemon, I don't think you need healer pokemon to heal pokemon. I see them as battle tactics not necessarily things to use outside of battle, although some can be. I'd prefer more holistic ways that can be tweaked to fit a specific pokemon. Also, various nonhealer pokemon can still be useful in healing! I'm working on some art rn of each pokemon being helpful in some way.
