They're different styles of platformers, the mobility X has, the hidden armor upgrades, and more complex boss fights make it different enough from Classic that you can prefer one to the other. Classic is a more simple, arcade-y series.
>>26872879There are plenty of one-off games that never got sequels, like Disney Capcom games (Ducktales Remastered is alright and it was great to see the voice actors come together for one last time but the original is still better from a gameplay perspective), Ninja Gaiden, Kid Icarus, Little Samson, Mr. Gimmick, Shatterhand, really just ask /vr/ they could give you dozens of obscure games.
Also, not every franchise is completely outclassed by its successors. I like Rondo of Blood the most out of any Castlevania, but that doesn't mean I don't also love Castlevania I and III, especially the latter. I like some later Final Fantasy games more, but I still liked Final Fantasy III a lot and would go back and replay it if I got the itch. You can enjoy more games in a series than just the best one.
