Game Freak decides that Generation 7 will not feature a new trio of starters, but rather reuse three from previous games, and tells you to pick which three to use.

While you have to stick to the customary fire/water/grass trio, they don't have to be from the same generation.

I like them all, both in design and usage. for me they are pretty balanced. still the best starters and I'm not being nostalgic because this isn't my gen starter

I always liked the Sinnoh starters a whole lot. I think part of it has to do with the fact that 2 of them were original types, but they always stood out. I like all of the starters, but the 5th gen ones saddened me a bit, and I'm not talking about the typings this time. They felt kinda underwhelming, not that that's gonna stop me from breeding them eventually though.
