I think with gen 5's E4 they realized Fighting/Psychic/Dark/Ghost make a good starter-esque typing and that's why we have a lot of those.
But I really wish they'd get rid of those shitty starter abilities. That period of time with no intimidate Incineroar was fucking awful, and no one would ever use them over another ability unless the other ability manages to be even worse.
