I wonder if he acknowledged that Dawn was likely to end up with Ash after his battle with him, considering she specifically said in her letter that she chose to go on to the League to cheer him on.
So with that in mind and having the nagging possibility that Dawn has likely hooked up with the boy she’s traveled around Sinnoh with, can you really blame his reaction when Dawn’s partner for the doubles contest isn’t any other coordinator, isn’t Ash because she might be his girlfriend, but some literal who he’s never, ever met before, and actually unlike Ash, has never even participated in, let alone been in a contest before?
I think it’s an interesting prospect to consider his initial reaction to Goh. Then there’s Ursula manipulating him afterwards as well to fuel the fire.
