Feraligatr lost fucking everything that made him cool. Typhlosion held up a bit better but got totally ruined in 3D because of the lack of flames. And Meganium got progressively smaller and less threatening each generation, especially its head proportions.
I really felt the Meganium nerf in HGSS, because I always loved choosing Totodile (one of my favorite starters) and leaving Chikorita to the rival. I adore the idea of Silver stealing an innocent Chikorita and slowly corrupting her into a villainous pokemon. I still remember how badass Bayleef looked during the Azalea battle back in the day. And by the time it became a Meganium, it looked scary as fuck with that big head and a sprite that covered the entire right side of the screen. This motherfucker had corrupted the cutemon and turned it into a magnificent killing machine.
HGSS fucked it all up with the redesigns. But I'll always view the Chikorita line as Silver's canon pokemon. The whole idea of evil trainers making pokemon evil works perfectly with Chikorita.
