Not to make excuses, but I was also the pregnant anon that posted here. I had my baby, and therefore I really don't have time to draw or practice much anymore since I'm taking care of her. However whenever I do, I would love to.
I feel I excel much better in the "drawing" aspect of art than I do the "coloring/painting" and what you said is all very valid. I'll admit, I think I suck at coloring and shading lol. I only seem to be semi-decent at it when using flat anime cel shading like pic related.
Ah well, my calling is being a mom right now anyways instead of furthering my art skill.
