I believe that then we have to define exactly what love is for humans and pokemon in addition to making the distinction between the level of consciousness of each individual, both pokemon and human. It is necessary to admit that not all pokemon are suitable for a relationship, some are not sufficiently aware of the romantic feelings of other creatures and others simply seem to exceed those kinds of needs by being like divinities. At the same time humans who in their ignorance can become cruel or indifferent to their pokemon or other living creatures are not suitable for a relationship of respect and equality.
What should be aimed at is a middle ground between both parties and although in our world it is very unlikely if we consider the evidence of this other fictional world the possibility is much more likely.
