On my third try I win, through a combination of long-lasting sleep, intimidate and tailwind from masquerian, and durant using iron head instead of rock slide. only beedrill survives, but to be able to win at all without overleveling is encouraging. One win out of six tries.
I take a break to go pick up some missed items and captures. On route 4 i get dwebble, relearn that relic castle is unavailable until beating burgh so no anorith yet, grab paras from relic passage, and finally find a burmy in castelia park. Female, so im getting a trash cloak wormadam which i hope will help with burghs physical sweepers. I bank a couple of compensatory captures for the johto starter and egg from the battle company.
Allowing leveling to 30 lets me evolve whirlipede to scolipede, which is something. Everyone else gets a bit more stats but no significant moves. I make another go with a different team at lvl 31 and manage one win out of 5, with just ariados surviving. Durant continues to fuck me, but even getting past his leads masquerian and yanmega leaves me open to getting fucked by any missed sleep powder or waking up early.
