But if you've played BOTW, you probably already know the great plateau really isn't very big in terms of sheer plane size - it's big because it's very dense and has a ton of z-axis vertical variety and it winds in on itself and so on.
I promise I'm not actively trying to rag on SwSh, but the truth of the matter is that the wild area really isn't very big at all and is lacking in content (source being the leaked video stream). SwSh is for the most part very much in line with the design principles set forward in SM where you have tight corridors connecting towns, and there just happens to be this large and kind of empty Xenoblade-esque field in the middle.
