It kinda pains me that this is the most appropriate image. It doesn't convey the sheer emptiness, the realization that what little fun you had has drained out of your skull. There's the images where he's dealing with the rage, the wrathful fire in his heart that pushes him, against all odds, but all fires burn out someday. Eventually, things lose their glamour, you lose your reasoning, and you hopefully move on. I doubt Kieran, as blindingly devoted as he was to becoming the strongest, the best, your spiritual demise even, could move on.
He would fall deeper into himself, searching what faded memories he has left after such a, to him, traumatizing, life-changing event, looking for a lifeboat to cling to. Maybe Ootachi sniffs him worriedly, but it isn't enough. The train's engine has no coals left. Lying there, dead to all but those who care, and those few do not include himself in their count.
